'Knowing Every Child'

General Year 3 Letters and Home Learning

Home Learning

In Year 3 our expectation of the children focuses on times tables and reading. All children will have a Home Learning booklet for the term. We expect to see these weekly, every Thursday. The booklet will record how often the children read at home (minimum 4x weekly, to an adult), a reading based activity, times tables practice and spelling practice. We will be monitoring these and will contact parents if there is consistently no evidence of home learning found.

Children should read their books at home at least four times a week to an adult, who should sign the reading record diary on each occasion. When reading with your child, please ask them questions to check their understanding of the text. Please ensure that the reading book and reading record are in school every day, they will be monitored weekly. Each week a task should be completed, as listed in the Home Learning Booklet, and recorded in the space provided. As soon as the reading book is finished, your child should change it for another one. In addition, there will be a weekly guided reading time for your child to read and discuss texts in a small group with an adult, as well as opportunities for borrowing books from our library, once a week during the timetabled library session.

If you child misplaces their Home Learning booklet or reading record, they should inform their class teacher.  As you can understand, printing 90 of these booklets comes at a cost, and we expect the children to look after them.
