Geography Home Learning
Letter dated Wednesday 9th May 2018
This term our Geography topic is about our local area. We are finding out about the Geographical position of St. Albans, identifying how the land is used and recognising the human impact on the landscape.
Our aim is to create a tourist information leaflet to encourage others to visit St. Albans.
After half term the children will be asked to make a 2-3 minute presentation about somewhere in St. Albans that they know well and have visited.
The presentation will be verbal but should also include visual evidence. For example; a PowerPoint, poster, model, photographs or drawings. Children may use notes but should know that they want to say and should not simply read from a script.
A good place to start is to help your child to decide on a place for their presentation (e.g. Verulamium Park, The Alban Arena, The Roman Museum, Heartwood Forest, etc.) and then help them complete a mind map about their chosen place.
The children should then spend a little time each week working on their presentation. Presentations will take place the first week after half term. The children will also write about their chosen place as one of the sections in their St. Albans tourist information leaflet.
Please DO NOT choose The Clock Tower or The Market as your chosen area, as we study this in class and as part of our trip.
If you need any further information, please contact your class teacher.
