We are looking forward to our Art Week, which this year falls between Monday 12th March and Friday 16th March. Our theme this year is Art and Religion. We have lots of activities planned for the children, as well as a visit from Sandringham ‘A’ Level students who will be showing and talking about their artwork. The religions we will be focusing on are Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism. As always, I would love parents and the wider community to get involved to help the children make the most of the experience. You don’t have to follow these religions to get involved. Suggestions could be talking about their religion and beliefs, making food for the children to try, reading a story in a different language, showing traditional dress, showing an object with patterns on, henna painting or any other ideas that you have that would be educational and fun. I have also invited local religious leaders to talk to the children in assemblies. If you would like to be involved or know someone who may be able to help please email me on: email@example.com Children are also invited to think about their favourite celebrations and traditions they enjoy at home. These could include special meals, objects or rituals. I would like to create an exhibition of photographs and objects on Wednesday 14th March which parents would be welcome to look at after school. These could be religious or nonreligious celebrations and traditions. Art week would not be the same without our talented parent visitors involved in the artistic fields and I hope you will once again give up your time to talk to the children. Your artwork does not have to be connected with anything to do with religion! New parents in Year 3 would be most warmly welcomed. You can talk to one class or small group of children, it does not have to be the whole school. The assembly will take place on Friday 16th March which parents are welcome to attend. During the course of the week the children will be creating artwork based on our four chosen religions. As you will appreciate, the cost of materials for all the children to participate is quite considerable, which is why we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £3 for each child. Many thanks in advance for supporting our Art Week.
