The Highwayman - Tim's diary entry

Tim's Diary Entry

Tim’s Story

And dark in the dark old inn-yard a stable-wicket creaked

Where Tim the ostler listened; his face was white and peaked;

His eyes were hollows of madness, his hair like mouldy hay,

But he loved the landlord’s daughter,

The landlord’s red-lipped daughter,

Dumb as a dog he listened, and he heard the robber say—

Imagine you are Tim the Ostler.

Tim is a poor man who works at the inn looking after the horses. He most likely sleeps in the stable close to the horses. He has fallen in love with Bess, but that love would never be returned.

Write some short diary entries for Tim at different points of the story.

  1. What I felt about the Highwayman and Bess:
  2. How I ended up telling the King’s men.
  3. What I remember about the death of Bess.
  4. What happened to me after these terrible days.
