LO: to expand a clause into a detailed simple sentence.

 

Example: his raft (noun) floated (verb) – This is a clause.

  1. Turn the clause into a simple sentence by adding a capital letter and a full stop.  E.g. His raft floated.
  2. Add an adjective or two to describe the noun.   E.g. His narrow, wooden raft floated.
  3. Add an adverb to describe the verb.      E.g. His narrow, wooden raft floated silently.
  4. Add an adverbial phrase at the end of the sentence to give extra information to explain where, when or how.       E.g. His narrow, wooden raft floated silently down the river.

EXT: Add 1 or 2 more adverbial phrases to give more information and make it more exciting.

E.g. His narrow, wooden raft floated silently down the river towards the raging waterfall.

E.g. Through the dense, swirling fog, his narrow, wooden raft floated silently down the river towards the raging waterfall

 

Use the clauses below to build up sentences following the instructions above. Each sentence should be built up one-step at a time. From each clause, you should write four or five sentences.

 the cat jumped             the burglar crept                  the lion roared

 the girl ran               the snake slithered
