We have investigated words with the suffix 'ly'. The rules and the words are below.

 

Rules:

Most root words + ly – sadly, completely, usually, finally politely.

 

If root word ends in consonant y = change y to i e.g. happily, angrily

 

If root word end in le change the le to ly e.g. gently, simply, humbly, nobly

 

If the root word ends in ic – ally is added

Basic = basically, frantic = frantically

Dramatic = dramatically
